Colin Bowen, a retired British Telecom engineer started carving under his Grandfather's watchful gaze almost half a century ago. Having won a Gold Medal for his work at the British National Woodworker Show in 1993, and other accolades since, it is retirement that has afforded him the time to expand the range of artefacts he now offers for sale at craft fairs.
Notable in his repertoire have been commissions from the British Institute of Plumbers and Heating Engineers for their coat of arms. A Date Plaque that appeared on TV for the History Channel's Hidden History House and from further afield patterns for carved coat hangers from a charity in Kenya. From Monday 9th November to Sunday 15th Colin's work will be on display at Apple Craft Centre, Selling Road, Faversham and available in their craft shop thereafter. Colin said "I am always pleased and interested to receive commissions, and I view them as a challenge". From the craft centre's view point Sue Sandford said "We have been asked many times for carved house name plaques and now we have found a carver happy and capable of filling a void in the varied handmade crafts that we sell from makers in Kent".
The Art Nouveau work of Alphonse Mucha, Colin's logo is an example, has inspired Colin in his many carved portraits which are normally carved in Lime with details made from a variety of exotic woods.

You will now find examples of my work on sale at the Apple Craft Centre.
